LOTE Spanish (Languages Other Than English)
Texas certification exam for teachers seeking to teach Spanish as a world language at the secondary level (TExES 613). Other languages use different LOTE exam codes.
The LOTE exam tests both language proficiency and pedagogical knowledge for world-language instruction:
- Language proficiency — listening, reading, writing, and speaking in the target language
- Cultural awareness — knowledge of the cultures associated with the target language
- Language acquisition theory — relevant to communicative classroom instruction
- Instructional planning and assessment — applied to LOTE contexts
